SEA OF NOISE
JOURNAL

"If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly."
- G.K.Chesterton

Once upon a time (1992-1997) there was Sea of Noise BBS. And the sysop saw that it was good. And he created a zine. And he did call it Sea of Noise Journal. And SONJ went forth into the world over BBS systems, file networks, and web pages whose URLs have long since been discarded on the dustbin of Internet history.

Before you are (some of) the remains (in various stages of conversion from ASCII to XHTML) of that zine. Maybe someday we'll clean up this archive or even add some of the never-released material from Volume 3. But don't hold your breath. (Stop by the blog instead.)

Share & Enjoy! All contents are copyright 1994-1997 by Robert Szarka and/or the original authors. Fond regards and thanks to the folks who contributed original material or allowed me to reprint their musings in SONJ over the years!

Dedications

Issue #1.02:

This issue is dedicated to the memory of Roger Zelazny (1937-1995),
author of The Amber Chronicles, Doorways in the Sand, and many others.

Jim Cowling (scowling@cyberstore.ca) offered this fitting tribute, from
Zelazny's The Hand of Oberon, in a recent post on rec.arts.sf.written:

"Good evening, Lord Corwin," said the lean, cadaverous figure
who rested against a storage rack, smoking his pipe, grinning around it.
"Good evening, Roger. How are things in the nether world?"
"A rat, a bat, a spider. Nothing much else astir. Peaceful."
        "You enjoy this duty?"
        He nodded.
"I am writing a philosophical romance shot through with elements
of horror and morbidity. I work on those parts down here."
"Fitting, fitting," I said. "I'll be needing a lantern."
He took on from the rack, brought it to flame from his candle.
"Will it have a happy ending?" I inquired.
        He shrugged.
        "I'll be happy."

We'll miss you, Roger.

Issue #2.01:

The winds of time have claimed many greats, from Tiny Tim to Russell Kirk, since the previous issue, so it's impossible to name them all. This issue is dedicated, therefore, to the most recently fallen among the heros, Brent Bozell, Jr. Requiescat in pace.
